Cutoff Text or Strange Crops? Try This Reddit Banner Size

Updated: Apr 4

Once upon a time, I started a web design business. And I had a Reddit profile.

Reddit is a channel I highly recommend to bring more awareness and traffic to you, what you do, and your website. I looked up the Reddit banner image size. There was one official size, and four other sizes from people troubleshooting the crops in top results. Why? Which one is right?

I selected the best choice to start with. 1,920W x 384H in pixels. Of course, I made something good, and kept plenty of margin and white space. But the mobile profile view still cropped the banner on upload beyond words. And so I tried a few of the other size suggestions.

Then I went back to its normal size suggestion. And by keeping the design simple and centered, with no more text or clutter than a logo and website homepage link, I lived happily ever after. This is only one example of how frustrating a website or design can be. Design is typically not as simple as you were promised or you expected.

Simple Reddit Banner Size and Instructions

  1. To make a Reddit Banner, make your design canvas in something like Photoshop, Affinity, or set up a custom size in Canva to 1,920W x 384H in pixels.

  2. Keep the fonts in any graphic large enough for reading on small screens. In this case, I'm suggesting 28px or larger.

  3. One much larger headline or thought works.

  4. Only the center third of your design is safe for all of the different crops on Reddit.

Why Reddit?

Reddit is one of the most underrated website discovery tools. And it works because people come here to talk to people. It's real, and it isn’t polished.

People go to Reddit to ask real questions, compare options, and share honest experiences. That means the intent is already there. Users aren’t passively scrolling; they’re actively looking for ideas, answers, recommendations, and solutions.

When you show up in those more-viewed conversations, and a link to your website is included on your profile, it’s being discovered in context and community, not as an ad or promotion. Unlike traditional social platforms, Reddit threads age well and compound traffic over time. Take note, though. People dislike a promotional tone or links to your site, services, or products directly in your communication.

If you decide to kill some time and network on Reddit:

  • People and subject matter pros > brands

  • Subreddits are active communities you can follow and visit, and likely, there are local subreddits, others around the software you use, and even around certain job functions, industries, and stages of life

  • Messy thoughts > know-it-alls

  • Marketing yourself in traditional and promotional ways on Reddit is a big no thanks

A helpful comment or link on Reddit can surface in search results for months or years, continuing to drive good traffic and outside signals to your site long after it’s posted. Reddit users reward threads or responses for being helpful, clear, bold, or fun, exactly like what strong websites are built on.

If your site explains what you do clearly and solves a real problem, and you feel able to provide your perspective and answers, Reddit becomes a quiet, powerful discovery channel.

So when it comes to your Reddit profile and banner, if it's good enough, pause. Service or coaching businesses aren't built by selecting the best looks or tools to use; they're built by you building lasting relationships and trust.

Good luck, will I see you there? A YouTube banner size can be equally as tricky, but there are at least better templates and stated safe zones.
